Blue Ivy Bids $19,000 at Art Auction

Blue Ivy, accomplished rapper, dancer, and actress, is now an avid art collector too.

JAY-Z and Beyoncé’s adorable 6-year-old bid $19,000 on “Young Sidney,” an art piece by Tiffanie Anderson, at Tina Lawson’s 2nd Annual Wearable Art Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday (March 17).

Blue raised her bid from $17,000 to $19,000 while mom and dad proudly looked on. Bidding began at $10,000 for the broken glass piece, which was inspired by Sidney Poitier. The work was originally valued at $16,000.

“Let me tell you what’s happening,” said host Star Jones, who acted as the auctioneer. “[Blue’s] mother and father have been talking about how you gather art and that is a big deal for African-Americans.”

Beyoncé and her mother-in-law Gloria Carter also earned the 2018 Waco Theater Center Humanitarian Award at the gala. “I feel really full,” said an emotional Bey. “I feel so blessed and fortunate…I never thought people should receive awards like this because, in my opinion, giving is reward enough.”

Former First Lady Michelle Obama celebrated Bey’s equity, justice, and fairness efforts in a video that played at the event. “I love you,” she said. “I am inspired by you. And I’m so honored and proud…Honey, you give us the courage to reach out across every divide.”

Blue Ivy also congratulated her mom and grandma with handwritten notes. “Thank you for my brother and sister. Thank you for loving me and Daddy. But most of all, thank you for being you. I love you,” she wrote to her mother.

Blue praised her grandmother too: “I love you. Thank you for creating my daddy. You make me happy. I want to have a heart as big as yours.”
